when not boxing or delivering pastries, this is the room. I work from home so i spend 10hrs looking at both laptops. They are what i use for the internet/email/admin stuff then when i can make music i can turn the big PC for music only. It is very stable. the thing doesn't crash. its connected to the network, but only to transfer files from the laptops. i use the dell and mac for dev work.. making reaktor and max/msp patches and sound design.

i only use the desktop for the main sequencing/mixing work. to note: umami made me some dope little brackets to fasten my motu under my door desks (they're made from solid core doors) he is a great person to know.. cuz he can build anything out of foam and or metal.

I have removed pretty much all my hardware synths and mixing desks from this setup. working entirely in the computer is so fast for me. that is how i always worked. even back when i had a four track and a goldwave version 1 in 1993 i would just do everything in the computer and track it four track.then in college we did everything with CSound/CMusic and later Max. The VSTi and super fast personal computers have made all this waiting for sounds to 'render' such a thing of the past for me. i could not work in this environ: link

i've just recently began recording various live instruments for later processing instead of working with found vinyl samples.

the room used to be fully carpeted. but the cats ruined the carpet pretty quickly. the concrete floor has made this room too bright sound wise.. the big Ikea rug helps.. but I still can tell. i would like to spend some time sound reinforcing the room.. but i have no idea where to start.but it is really nice to have this much space. i had a drummer come over the other day.. had plenty of room.. even tho the room sounded like ass. this room has spoiled me. if i had a mini fridge and a toilet close.. i would never leave.
hello world

the door desks are the key to life my friend!
cheep and simple to make.
1 door, and some 4x4s..
lots of ppl get the ikea adjustable saw horses and use that for the legs.

i have like 6 of them in the house.
4 in this room. to the right out of frame is the sugar computer
and out of frame to the left is a little 6'x6' nook where all my misc BS lives.. books, manuals, software boxen.. a little love seat made from my old mixers road case.

they yellow box with the PDA on it?
thats my 'sunshine box' that my wife made for me.
theres a switch on it.. turn it on.. it plays 'you are my sunshine' on loop, forever.
still don't know how she made as the box is pretty damned solid.

very nice. how do you like the rode mic? it's on my short list of condenses to look into, but i've ehard good and bad things about it....would you recommend it?

damn, i wish i had a room to myself...my studio desk is my rhodes mk-80, and it's in the front room, with the tv and the roommates and the stereo, and the cat climbs on my monitor and knocks my speakers over daily...looks like you've got a pretty good flow to your setup.

yes that POS VW is mine.
i want it to explode.
replacing the transmission on it once tought me to hate it with such vigor.

re: rode.

it records guitars and hand percussion excellent as thats all i have used it for so far.

its very low noise too.

beautiful pad. I love the huge window in front... i hate staring at the wall behind my monitors sometimes. This studio thread feature is pretty fun!

ikea rugs suck (for studios)! i bought a black one cuz it was winter and we have hardwood floors, it's covered in lint in no time. perhaps no carpet is better for the computer as there's less dust / lint settling? your floor situation looks best (shiny floors?)

oops, just read the bit about the flooring causing sound problems. would rather have clean sound than lint issues.

the floor is cement.. thats the sound issue.

and yes this rug f'n sucks.
its picks up massive dog/cat hair within hours of a good vacumm

hard wood is supposed to have good sound properties.
i've been reading up on sound reinforcment.. but theory without practice is useless.
