Another Version of live is coming soon. Sorry for anyone who just recently upgraded to V4 as you now get to spend money again!
Clip Freeze
Plug-In Delay Compensation
Launchable Arrangement Locators
Mackie Control Support

At least I'm eligable for the $49 upgrade. It does seem as though every feature everyone has always bitched about not having is there though. Prepare for an onslaught of bax mashups. I hate mashups. rawr.

Oh, and it also has an instant glitch effect. Is it april 1st?

Ha! I'm not worried about the mashups thing. Plenty of bad music out there -- if there's more, so be it; I don't have to listen to it. What will make things easier for mashups will also make it easier for the rest of us to beat-shuffle and remix our own stuff and (hopefully) do it well!
Features I'm still looking for:
- metric changes?
- easier MIDI editing / quantization?
- plugin sidechaining?
- set management for switching between Live sets in performance?
I know these aren't core-audience things, but . . . some of them may even be in there, for all I know!

"VST MIDI effect support" - I hope this means I'll be able to use Reaktor as a MIDI effect in my Ableton Live tracks.

arrangement locaters is good, live clip format sounds brilliant, and device groups is most useful (especially if it applies to any vst chains).

i was hoping they'd iclude operator in it. they could've undone all the bad vibes from overpricing by making it part of the package (and giving a free upgrade to operator owners).

seems like not much extra for such a big jump in version numbers.
anyone remember when reason 3 came out ? everyone saying that a jump from 2.5 to 3 was too much for the features offered etcetcetc ?
well this is far less.
your getting mostly things that are standard features on other packages. everyone seems to be over the fucking moon tho.
and they dont give you the operator ? thieves.

ableton, unlike a lot of other companies, listens to their users. i never thought they'd go for mp3 support, but they have. their software has undergone an insane change in less than a year. they need to offer more 'standard features' to become a viable alternative to other DAWs. the clip format thing itself is awesome - i've always wanted to save clips for later recall or use in other tracks. now mebbe i can send a cool clip to a friend when collaborating.

yeah, the mp3 bit was a surprise.
i wonder if it hot-renders mp3s into WAVs in the background, and i wonder if there's significant additional processor overhead for mp3.
i think i'm gonna wait a few months to hop on nonetheless. v4 is now pretty darn stable.

v1.5 still rocks my world!

yeah, but Reason went up in price from v2.5 to v3. Ableton's staying the same price.
and it is a pretty big jump in features... Ableton's now trying to grab DAW users by the balls; they've not really aimed directly at doing that before.

Yep--it looks like they've finally come up with something that's convinced me to ditch Cubase entirely. Clip Freeze and PDC pretty much sealed it for me.
