This walks that genius line between cheese and greatness. I agree about dumping the fatty-boom-batty synth pad....maybe some marimba? That'd make this track just too sexy!

i'd fuck around with some soloistic type biz on a ride cymbal instead of a hihat, and complement it with some very dissonant rhodes stabz and reverb tweakz.

if it's jazz, make it a touch more on the tony williams side, where the ride is a lead.

those are just first feelings. oh, and don't be afraid of the "tritone sub" or the sus 4 paralellogram. how about a chord solo on the guit? you got the sex for that.

i like the idea of dirting up the rhodes a tiny amount.. just some fuzz in there.. very subtle.. also, some movement it he hats (hat like sounds) would be cool.. or just sliding them back like 15 ticks so they're a little late but not really 'late' just enough to change the pocket.. it's that kind of track that would benefit from some subtle human slop

nice track though.. i like the spacey vibe and opium den sensibility.  

there is plenty of human slop in there.. its just those fat drums all quanitzed to grid hide my shitty playing

so my tip for you all, make your drums very very loud, and quantized, and no one will notice you're bad playing  

Yes, jdg, I have also found that this works quite well. Or bye bye human slop (ie. stripping out silence / breaks between notes and quantizing).
