here's a track i've been working since march..
its more of my downtempo stuff but with a total loungy/jazz feeling...
this is the first mixdown, comments and suggestions welcomed!
(note to anyone who cares.. all my downtempo stuff is under the moniker of 'fell' (
link ))
about 5:30 and and 5.5mb
shows off your musicality
like the sound at 2.10 brings something different
i would like the rhodes sounds to be f ked with a bit via fx so they mutate slowly through out
the tracks needs as much warmth as possible pumped into it
maybe drive the mix a bit harder via PSP to get rid of the cleaness
but overall very professional - you fur lined , smoking jacketed lizard

funny thing is i have PSP VW and the UAD-1 plugs pumping pretty hard...
i didn't do my usuall mix down through my analog desk or my other 'dirting' techniques yet... maybe time for some more effort at the mix

maybe a touch of izotope vinyl?

jdg - i like a lot of your music but less so this
it is a matter of taste - the production is good - the arrangement is good - the composition is good - but it needs to be played on acoustic instruments by a live band to do it justice - it is like a demo for a live band - IMO EM is not suited to trying to emulate sounds that can be better created by non EM instruments and players
i appreciate your skill
i prefer your effacer/jdg style
all the best mr jdg - ai

nice one! I like how it starts-just gets going. I like the bass tone. Upright huh? Who play's these instruments? Is this composed and played live?

nope all virtual.. i hear you AI.. thats why i usually 'dirty' my stuff like this.. then it sounds pretty good.
i'll try the izotope vinyl (or actual vinyl.. i have a cheep source for dubplates)
i would like to put together a band that could play my music like this with me live..
(also i enjoy my effacer tracks the most as well)
cheers all

Oh my how I like this.
To follow up on autistici's comment - I think the track benefits from that "not quite real" feeling. Although I'm not quite sure I would have thought about it if I just heard it on the radio, there's this "Ninja Tune"ish feeling of it being put together from different sources.
Of course the upfront drums help with the electronic association - I'm not sure that I've heard any "live" jazz mixed like this.
It's the best track I've heard here in a long time.
Thanks!

whoa, wow.
I'm trying to think of something really smart and appreciative, yet constructive, but I can't stop listening to this long enough to think of anything.
oK, thought of something. A minor nit -- you urbanized my scotch-on-the-rocks mood at 1:40 for the low-key groove, which was very nice, but you never let me back into the lounge. You hinted at some beat manip around 3:30, which could be a nice outtro back to the lounge theme.
Uhh... That is, if you want to go back to the lounge. I'm just along for the ride.

Ahh, beautiful Rhodes. This is really tight. Very nice beats at 1:50. I love how this flows from one idea to the next so well. I like this kind of music, but often it’s a decent groove driven into the ground. Not so on this track. Very sweet.
I like the production, but I’m on the crappiest walkman headphones into my computer speaker set up currently, so I’d like to listen a again on something else to hear the highs and lows better.
I really don’t have anything constructive to add. You definitely got what you wanted to get going on here. Sounds extremely polished and professional. Thanks for the post.

No fair! you can't monopolize so many genres and kick ass at them all.
I will delve into fell. I'm still a sucker for creative downbeat... this is some of the best I've heard in a while. Beats a lot of the Cafe del mar stuff.
