In the spirit of my past give-aways/contests here is one for the johnukkah weekend that is almost upon us.
i just bought autechre's "draft 7.30" because everyone raves about it.
Seriously tho... this is largely unlistenable. please, please, please tell me why you like this music? it is painful and aimless.
i will award an undisclosed prize to the person who can most eloquently defend this release and show me its merits.
Winner(s) will be decided after this blog leaves the front page of em411.com.
All judgments are final.
Please, no more than 300 words.
i like it. i can put it on an enjoy myself. and also what sohcatoa said. i don't need another copy though. i don't know anybody else who would want it. track 3 is one of my favorite songs in the world.
I enjoy Draft 7.30, ok. It did take me while to get into Autechre but I've come to peace with them, and I view their music as disassociated from most everything. Most folks bring with them to their compositions certain requirements as to what 'music' even 'electronic music is' - it has drums, bass, snare on 2 and 4, etc... But what the Autechre guys excel at is totally leaving that behind. Granted, totally ignoring musical norms doesn't make your tunes the most listenable, but it does make them particularly interesting.
amber is good, lp5 is awesome, ep7 is rad, and the garbage ep gives me shivers. i think things like incunabula and the like are a bit dated, and you have to listen to them with that in mind.
Ok. I own the CD. To be honest I didn't quite "get it" at first, but the more I listen to it, the more I like it. The same goes for Confield. I guess it takes a while to discover that this music isn't at all aimless. Quite the opposite: the tracks are clearly structured and undergoes evolvement. It's music that grows on you, not something that you like right away. But then again, I've always thought of Autechre's more recent work as "musician's music", or perhaps even "dsp musician's music", and I wonder if people that aren't themselves making electronic music will ever get it.
