In the spirit of my past give-aways/contests here is one for the johnukkah weekend that is almost upon us.
i just bought autechre's "draft 7.30" because everyone raves about it.
Seriously tho... this is largely unlistenable. please, please, please tell me why you like this music? it is painful and aimless.
i will award an undisclosed prize to the person who can most eloquently defend this release and show me its merits.
Winner(s) will be decided after this blog leaves the front page of em411.com.
All judgments are final.
Please, no more than 300 words.
Is that the one thats like "ba bam bip bip boo bo daba clickityclickity pop.....silence.......boom boom boom bam wack" ?
Who is this Autechre that everyone is talking about?

i like "draft 7.30" by autechre because i'm a wanker.

in the tradition of kraftwerk, the calculus of being completely and utterly unfunky (and/or unmelodic and/or unengaging) results in its absolute value: funkiness (and/or melodicalness and/or engagingness).
and/or please don't send me this cd.

Thats funny: i think autechre's music is very funky, i think kraftwerk's stuff is not slightly funky.
im listening to the cd now: i really like it. it has a fuggy warmth throughout.. even the harsh bits.. it sounds wirey and alive.. the brutal chaotic bits are balanced by deeply entrenched grooves.
it's mysterious: i think that's the core of why i like it so much, and as if it's governed by a secret logic that we're shown glimpses of.
[please disqualify me, i was listening to electric ladyland by mistake]

It's musical cred. Owning this album is your way of saying, "I can take whatever you throw at me. Bring it on, pussy". When someone approaches you with a Moby cd, you can wave your copy of Draft 7.30 in their face to ward them off, much like you'd use a crucifix to ward off Count Dracula.
I liken owning and proclaiming your love of this album in 2004 on par with owning and proclaiming your love of Lou Reed's
Metal Machine Music in 1975. You're "out there". You "get it". In 10 years you'll still be cool. Cooler even.
The dudes that went off on that album back then solidfied their futures as musical 'eccentrics'... inciting fear and panic whenever they get near the stereo at a party. That's power right there. Girls with tatoos and glasses will love you. Dope.
I could go on and on, but I don't actually own or like this album either... I'm just hoping to score some shortbread.

huh? compared to Confield I thought it was rather listenable for Autechre.

i actually really like one track on draft 7.30. i can't remember which one. its got kind of a hip hop beat. it is actually quite funky, in a broken robot kind of way.
the rest of is unlistenable crap to me, as was 80% of confield. i love LP5 though and everything previous. i'm old school. yeah.
i have draft 7.30 on vinyl. please don't send me the CD. I'd probably break it in half and use the jagged edges to hijack a plane and crash it into autechre's studio.

i own this album. i "get" it. you just don't understand obviously.

"The Telephone Call" has the funk. is this going to become another "I don't get Kraftwerk thread?" as well?
Autechre is awful ... even going back to their old stuff, it's pretty eh!? They lived the equivalent of the rock n roll lifestyle and got as far as you could with wankery.
I like the track "Leteral" off Tri.
and I think Amber is the only solid release they've made, where the album has some flow and is worth listening to the whole thing. yet I don't have any favorite tracks off it.
I just like that one .. "Leteral" .. it's a good I care because you do ripoff .. (let's take Icct Hedral and Ventolin and mix them together) .. ahh the sound of 95.

I'm waiting for Autechre to transform themselves from a "band" to a plug-in

because rhythmic sounds move in and out of sync and form subtle patterns of personal interest....
like clouds
or smoke
but with glitch sounds
some will see nothing and some will see something meaningful
its definately a 'when you are in the mood for it' album
so whats the prize? a merzbow cd?

it is a dense rich energy flow

i assume it would be the cd in question, no?
