just ran some simple tests and ran the MD5 sum on them.

1. just bounced the a small audio file with nothing:
5c5b39921bfaf6ea28e2480af371f9da
2. ozone3 loaded, but bypassed in cubase:
5c5b39921bfaf6ea28e2480af371f9da
3. ozone3 loaded but disabled in cubase:
5c5b39921bfaf6ea28e2480af371f9da

so far so good... cubase actually bypasses the effect, and leaves the audio untouched:

5. ozone3 loaded but no modules turned on:
b48a74dd05fdd31d7b219474fc74cb58
6. ozone3 loaded, EQ module turned on only:
b48a74dd05fdd31d7b219474fc74cb58
7. ozone3 dynamics turned on only:
6d9371061ae137ce5da5fa3c74f9beba
8. ozone3 interal bypass button:
b48a74dd05fdd31d7b219474fc74cb58

OK.. so this to me proves at least one thing my ears have been telling me. that dynamics module sounds weird!!
i never use it.. it makes stuff sound wrong (at least to me)! (especially to the stereo image!)

but, it makes sense that the other test using ozone give a diff file signature, since it is being changed... but its good to see, that with the EQ on and with the internal ozone bypass its the same. but that dynamics module! arrrghhhh

OK.. Just did a stereo test with the ozone3 dynamics module.
it does skew the stereo signal. tried to make an animated gif of the difference of it, on and off: link

yes, you're right. do this: white noise signal, switch multiband dynamics on and off. MAJOR difference in sound. is it a majore bug?

not good. with loudness maximizer and EQ I couldn't find a difference using white noise in Wavelab4.

I've send them an email. this is serious although I never used that module, only EQ and limiting.

yes i aggree!
i just never took the time to think about it.

send them to this page

i think OZONE is kind of a hackers project. maybe i'm really off on that. It doesn't "sound" like a sound engineer's work...?

I wait for reply, then I kick this page in

white noise tests prove many things.

got reply John:

"Hi Marco,

The Multiband modules use a crossover to separate the audio signal into 4 bands, process each band separately, and then reassemble the bands. So even when the settings on the dynamics module haven't yet been adjusted, the crossover can be present if any of the multiband modules is enabled and uses more than one band.

Ozone 3 allows you to customize the sound and resolution of the crossover from the Options panel - here, you can change the crossover between Analog and Digital mode, modify the sharpness of the crossover cutoffs, and also adjust the windowing size of the digital crossover.

I hope this helps,

Sincerely,

Dave

makes sens, but haven't further tested it. I still like the EQ and Limiter, but maybe it's my bad taste.

to be continued...

In Reason you have this vocoder and like all vocoders it slit the bands. The most simple thing is to use 4 bands, but the phasing causes by band-splittin is serious in that-mode, but part of the deal. Crossover-filters always work like this. I am not sure how other software is working but any band-splitting device uses crossover-filter. If not: it's shit

I am not a specialist. I think you know much more about EQ's and Compressors than me. You have tried so many things and know the good and worse parts of it. So I am happy with Ozone3, very much, and sometimes I use that Smartelectronics EQ, which is great too.
